Polar Puff Turns 100!

Polar Puffs and Cakes chairman Dr Chan Kok Yew is set to have a busy year ahead. The business, founded by his maternal grandfather, celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

Beyond the major events planned to mark this milestone, Kok Yew remains devoted to his daily ritual — preparing the paste for Polar’s signature product: the curry puff. This takes place in a secretive space known only as the “Curry Room,” to which he alone has access. After all, he is the sole custodian of the closely guarded recipe.

The origins of this prized formula? Kok Yew’s uncle is said to have won it from a French chef in a game of cards — a winning hand that continues to pay off.
