Pubbing at Stamford Land

Met Ow Yew Heng in the in-house British-styled pub in his HQ. He runs companies in two of the hottest sectors now – hospitality and shipping. His family owns and operates SGX-listed Stamford Land and Singapore Shipping Corp.

Heng is the CEO of Stamford Land, Australasia’s largest independent owner-operator of luxury hotels. It was reported last year that his hotels were put up for sale for A$1 billion.

The holding company was formerly known as Hai Sun Hup, a port services company that was started by Heng’s grandfather. His dad Ow Chio Kiat grew it into a global shipping and property firm and listed it in 1989. As an analyst covering the company, I witnessed the demerger of Hai Sun Hup in 2001 into the property and shipping listcos that we know today
