Trafigura’s Asia-Pacific CEO Tan Chin Hwee launches a new book

Jan 2, 2021

Trafigura’s Asia-Pacific CEO Tan Chin Hwee launched a book titled ‘Values at the Core: How Human Values Contribute to the Rise of Nations’.

He takes a different spin on why economies grow at different speeds, and suggests that human values should be the starting point to assess the growth potential of any country. Those who know Chin Hwee well probably wouldn’t be surprised. He has a knack of thinking outside the box, with an uncanny ability to marry philosophy with finance.

While writing the book during the pandemic, Chin Hwee found time to make record profits at Trafigura, the largest Singapore-based company by revenue. The oil trader racked up sales of US$147 billion and profits of US$1.6 billion, which according to Forbes, was one of the ‘clearest winners’ of this year’s oil market carnage.

(All proceeds for the book goes to Famchamps, in support of mental health)
