Trek 2000 Reinvents the Future
Jul 21, 2025
Few local companies can truly say they have changed the world. Trek 2000 is one of the rare exceptions.
If you’re from my generation (or earlier), you’ll remember saving files on 3.5-inch floppy disks. That changed in 2000 when Trek launched the ThumbDrive, making floppy disks obsolete globally in just a few years. Truly a killer product!
Since taking the helm in 2016, Chairman Wayne Tan has diversified the company into the renewable energy sector — building a team from the ground up and developing AI-powered systems for the solar industry.
Trek’s investments in this space have also paid off. In 2019, it invested US$3 million in Terrenus Energy, the company behind Singapore’s first grid-connected solar farm. That investment was recently sold at three times its original value.
It’s great to see a homegrown tech firm not just reinvent itself — but help reinvent the future.
